Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthetic using textured silicone implants. Surgical placement may be under the chest muscle or under the breast tissue. The choice of a tear drop shaped or round implant is not just based on anatomical conditions, but first and foremost on personal preferences. Following the 1-2 hour surgery a special support bra is measured and needs to be worn for 6 weeks. The drains placed during surgery are normally removed 1-2 days and stitches are removed after 2 weeks. Work can be resumed after 1-2 weeks. Sports, high reaching and heavy exertions should be avoided for 6 weeks. The final result is to be achieved after 3-6 months.
